PhD Program

Programme information, academic staff, curriculum, courses and programme outcomes of the PhD Programme of the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Hasan Kalyoncu University, are given in the tabs below.

Aim of the Programme

  • The aim of the doctoral programme is to equip students with the ability to investigate, examine and interpret, in an academic setting, the interdisciplinary relationship between design, building survey and restoration, and urban design, as well as contemporary theories and approaches in architectural design, within the context of the city and urban space. In addition, it aims to guide the architect, who manages the design and implementation process of a building, to conduct research on building production within the building-environment-user relationship in the light of technical and scientific data, and to develop this research further. To this end, the programme aims to train new academics, meet the demand for specialist professionals and ensure quality building production.

Establishment

  • The PhD programme has been conducted under the Institute of Science since 2017 and under the Graduate Education Institute since 2021. The objectives of the PhD programme in Architecture include examining the problems in the field of architecture from different perspectives; producing various alternative solutions to disciplinary problems of architecture; proposing and conducting interdisciplinary research starting from the intersections of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences; evaluating the interaction between theory and practice; and using different research approaches and methods along the axis of interdisciplinary relations. For those admitted with a master’s degree with thesis, the duration is eight semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses of the programme in which they are enrolled are offered, regardless of whether they register for each semester, and the maximum completion period is twelve semesters; for those admitted with a bachelor’s degree, the duration is ten semesters and the maximum completion period is fourteen semesters. The PhD programme consists of a total of 7 courses, a seminar, a qualifying exam, a thesis proposal and thesis work. The language of instruction is Turkish and the programme is delivered full-time.
